Went here with my Son for dinner before going to the theatre and it was excellent! The young lady who greeted us & looked after us was totally outstanding! A good choice of food on the menu and they catered brilliantly to my rare food allergy. Food was not only cooked to perfection but absolutely burst with flavour and service was efficient!! I look forward to returning soon!

Third time visiting yesterday, basically tried the full menu by this point. Can't recommend this place enough. Food, drinks, service and atmosphere have been faultless every time. Impressive 3:2 meat:vegan taco ratio, without skimping on vegan options for sides and extras. In my experience, it's rare that a restaurant that has so many meat options that they execute vegan dishes to an equally high standard (my partner is vegan). The tacos themselves are well and truly the main event with each encompassing bold flavours, with every element balanced - no flavour or component being lost in the mix. The menu is definitely Mexican fusion, with alot of Asian inspiration, but we're here for it. We're always impressed, and will continue visiting from Durham when we can - it's worth the journey!- Service

Great food as always, I’ve been a frequent visitor since 2019, great food again tonight, got in early before the theatre rush. Service on point, drinks good. 3 tacos each and some lovely padron peppers shared, a little bit of confusion over the final bill as it’s restaurant week in Sunderland but nobody mentioned this. So we expected 3 tacos for £13 which is the usual Tuesday deal. But never mind, all was sorted by a friendly and proactive manager who was keen to resolve the issue very quickly and efficiently. Sometimes service can be judged on how a situation is resolved and this was a great example of customer service by one senior member of staff. A great restaurant as always. This may sound a little strange, but sometimes there is be need to be defensive, someone might be trying to do the right thing.- Food

Really, really good food. Cocktails were excellent and interesting, and the service was spot on. The soft shell taco with pulled beef was unreal! Really good vegan options too. Only thing I'd not order again was the guac -£6 for a few nachos and guac when you can get more chips or another taco for less!

really good food, relatively small portions, but that means you can try lots of different things; the cocktails were also really really nice and staff was so friendly. the place itself has nice low lighting, the space is quite dark, so it immerses you more into the experience

First time visiting here and certainly won't be the last. Lovely Mexican tacos and equal split of meat/fish to vegan ratio. I'm pescatarian so ordered a couple of fish and couple of vegan tacos. We shared loaded Crayfish fries which were lovely. Margarita cocktails went down a treat before the theatre and staff were lovely. Definitely recommend.
Some of the best tacos I've had in the UK. Particularly recommended the Korean pork tacos, the aubergine tacos, and the crispy squid tacos. Margueritas also great. Nice atmosphere. Come here.

Incredibly accommodating for an un booked group of four due for the Sunderland Empire in 45 mins on arrival. Food and drink sublime but most impressed by the level of service, handling us with care and professionalism. Tacos tried were monkfish, lamb and pork with loaded fries. Amazing tastes. Will be returning with plenty of notice next time.

Great atmosphere and service from the off. Food was absolutely outstanding, plates come out fast and hot. The tacos we tried were the Crispy Squid, Korean Pork Belly and Pork Carnitas with some Cray Fish Dirty Fries on the side. Everything was 10/10. Three each was definitely enough but I could've maybe squeezed one more in if I'd have been greedy. Cocktails are superb and the Hell's Pilsner on draft is a tasty drop. We'll be back very soon.

EDIT: been back several times since this review and it's been fantastic every single time. Every taco tried including the new menu (Oct 22) which I've uploaded as there doesn't seem to be a copy online.
EDIT 2: still visiting Mexico 70 but tonight was probably out last visit. Nothing to do with the food or service but it's sadly closing its doors. It's been a real pleasure dining here and will be sorely missed. (I've updated my pics with the latest menu - definitely get the monkfish and the brisket)

First time we have visited Mexico 70 and it certainly won't be the last! We have been desperate to find somewhere local that does great Mexican street food and this has not disappointed. From the second we walked in the door, we were given such a warm welcome and provided with recommendations of food/drinks we may like to try. The staff were fabulous and the food was stunning. The best tacos! My partner and I adore this restaurant. The menu is regularly refreshed, the food is always tasty and fresh. The cocktails are very good, and the staff are always lovely. Definitely recommend.

I rarely think anywhere is worthy of a review, so when I say this place is incredible I really do mean it. Everything we had was amazing. The Korean pork belly taco might be one of the most enjoyable bites I’ve ever had. Top notch service and excellent cocktails rounded out a wonderful meal. Don’t miss out.

The meat was tender and well seasoned and every ingredient played a part in bringing together a well rounded dish that I'm still thinking about 2 weeks later. The staff were excellent explaining anything that was required, polite, cheerful and very helpful even the owner was out chatting and serving people which you don't see very often. Great atmosphere, good music....I can't recommend this place enough, give it a try I will definitely be going back. 👍👍Very cool place to eat or have some cocktails. We got three Tacos each and some Fries, which was the perfect amount. The service was very friendly and helpful. Each taco is brought out when it is ready, which helps keep things fresh.
